Environmentally friendly packaging solutions for cosmetics are sadly still in their infancy. Needless to say, it’s on us as beauty brands demand better solutions, which will then force packaging vendors to dedicate more resources to developing them.

Because there is no standard yet for eco friendly packaging in beauty, each one of our packages is different. So when we develop a product, we’re developing both a formula and the packaging. Most of our packaging is post consumer recycled materials (PCR), which means that is made from items that consumers recycle every day, like aluminum, cardboard boxes, paper, and plastic bottles.

When PCR is not an available option, we work to find other solutions, like the biobased material that is used for our mascara packaging, which has a positive carbon footprint (!) and uses resources that are renewed in one year, or the monomaterial that we use for the lipstick, that is designed to be easily recyclable.

It’s definitely a work in progress, as we work towards packaging that is a minimum of 50% PCR for all our products.
